In July 2009, the Friends of Mirror Lake hosted a rest stop for the Sagbraw Bicycle Tour.  The Friends provided a selection of baked goods, fruits, sandwiches, water and Gatorade along with shelter from the sun, comfortable chairs and a friendly environment.  The bicyclists who were biking from La Crosse to Kewaskum voted Mirror Lake the Best Rest Stop.  A bicycle rack valued at $250.00 was received as the award.  In addition, the rest stop raised nearly $500.00 for the park.

Mirror Lake won a Gold Seal award at the State Friends awards banquet in October. Last year Mirror Lake won 3 Gold Seal awards. This year’s award was for “Best Winter Fun.” It is quite an honor to receive this award. People voted online for their favorite state parks in several categories. There is no doubt that the well groomed cross country ski trails, snowshoe trails, ice fishing and Friends hosted torch lit ski/hikes made Mirror Lake a popular choice. The park regularly receives compliments on how well the ski trails are maintained. Over 800 people attended the ski/hikes in 2009 and many people return year after year. Mirror Lake being recognized with awards is made possible through the hard work of a very dedicated group of Friends and park staff at Mirror Lake. Hats off to us!

Awards are also given at the banquet for pictures chosen in the 2010 state Friends calendar contest. An oak leaf picture taken at Mirror Lake by Mary Melton after an ice/snow storm was chosen to represent the month of February.
